To Me and You

Mu new Akai APC20. I dig this! It is a dedicated Ableton Live controller. I literally Unboxed it, Plugged it in, and hit record on the video. This is warts and all as it is the first time I ever used it.

HEre are pics of the studio with the APC20 in place

What's up?

Everyone has fears. Fears are natural. Fear can be a good thing as fearing certain things will keep you out of harms way.

That being said, some fears are not good. Some fears are not rational. Some fears will hold you back.

It is that last fear I am talking about today. The fear that holds you back. I am talking about a very specific fear that rears up during my work all too often.

The fear of a blank canvas. An empty page. A blank recording. I am talking about the fear of not being able to create due to a block, confusion, or any other reason that causes a blank.

This is more a question than a post on how to overcome this fear. I am still trying to work it out myself. My question is what are some of your tactics for overcoming the blank page, canvas, or recording?

My one tip that I can give is to keep working. If you build momentum and keep working, inertia tends to keep the creative process going. Stop for a bit and it is back to the beginning.

I talked before about my productivity system. It is a modified version of the system credited to Jerry Seinfeld. It really does work. Still, the fear of the blank is a monster that is always ready to rise again.

Stay on guard!

Speaking of empty recordings, there is one less as of yesterday. Check out RfL IMB episode 425 over at Reaching for Lucidity. It is a great show with the music of Tom Kills and Hipslack.

Cheers!

Things are really heating up over at Reaching for Lucidity. The new Manga style Ebooks are coming along. All titles will also be available in print. This is an exciting new direction.

One thing that is out at RfL is the Steampunk look for Eban and SJ. It has been pointed out to me that the movement has been corrupted. T-pain has stolen Abney Park frontman Captain Robert’s look. Justin Beiber has a steampunk themed video.

That of course means that the Steampunk aspect of Eban and SJ is out. That also means I have to retool things a bit.

That is all cool. It will still be epic.

Here is a test page from the book. No story here, just a formatting test.

That is where things are at RfL right now. I am excited to have RfL moving again. It has been pretty stagnant for too long.

Before I sign out, I figured I would share some cool things I found around the web. Adam Daniel Mezei has put out his list of stuff that he wants for 2012. It is a cool list. It makes me want to dig deep and come up with my own list for 2012. Keep your eyes here for that. What do you have on tap for 2012? What is your list?

Chad Howse is offering a free workout. It is his version of what he thinks Thor himself would do to keep in shape. Get the free .pdf right now.

And over at Reaching for Lucidity, I have a list of the software and cloudware I use to create my media. Check it out if you would like to see what I use.

Cheers!
